Firefox, the web browser I’ve grown to love and prefer over the last couple of years since it hit the “market” is now on version 2. The main competitor of Microsoft’s IE, is releasing this new and improved version a few days after the release of IE7. The web is changing, and web browsers are changing as well, offering everything you’ve become accustomed to and then some.
What is new?
How can the best get any better, a Firefox enthusiast might wonder. The software developers responsible for version 2 however have managed to prove there is always space for improvement. Small things: The tabs which made your web browsing easier, faster and more convenient can now close by clicking on a little x button and re-open in case you accidentally clicked on it. In fact, a build in session restore engine can bring the web pages, tabs and even text you had typed in Firefox boxes back if you close the browser window by accident or due to a system crash. How cool is that.
Big things: Phishing protection has been built in, preventing malicious web sites from impersonating others and stealing your information. And how about spell-checking? It is built in as well. Whether you type in Firefox search boxes, or any online form, spelling errors will be pointed out to you. Which will make it almost impossible to find excuses, since we all know spelling mistakes always find a way to happen.
And have I mentioned direct posting to your blogs?
This is just the tip of the iceberg really, head over to the official Firefox 2 release notes to see all that is new and improved.
If you haven’t tried it yet, what are you waiting for? Download for free now, thank Firefox later.
