Adobe acquisition of Macromedia

Adobe (known for image editing software Photoshop), acquired Macromedia (known for web design software and technologies such as Flash, and Dreamweaver).

Two things shocked me about this fact. One is that I didn’t hear about it until a week after it happened. That bubble I reside in is somehow sound-proof to news about corporate take overs. The other one is, could Macromedia really have been in such a bad state in order to give in like that?

Products have been changing hands, and companies are merged and taken over all over the place lately. Half the Internet is buying and the other half is selling. It seems the tech corp world is shrinking in terms of variety while growing to gigantic proportions in terms of individual power for the few remaining companies.

I know all about the big fish that eats the small fish, but how small can a company like Macromedia really be – or rather – imagine the size of Adobe’s mouth.
