Among all the news, everything that is happening on this world this week, this article caught my attention as something to share. Besides, all the serious stuff, you probably already know…

The platypus, one of natures most … WEIRD! … yet wonderful creations has had it’s genetic code deciphered by scientists. Another astonishing breakthrough for science! OK, that may sound like I’m making fun, but seriously scientists say being able to study one of the world’s early mammals still in existence may give us clues as to how humans and other species evolved. That is, if you believe in evolution. I never make any assumptions about my readers.

I remember the first time I heard of the platypus. For years I wanted one as a pet. And then I started going to school. Imagine though a pet that is part beaver, part duck and part reptile. And it swims like a fish too! haha! Who can ask more from their pet? Granted it’s also venomous.

You can find out more about the Platypus on Wikipedia, or read the BBC article on the Platypus genetic code unravelled.

I recently discovered Nomao. A brilliant service, described by its makers as “The web 2.0 recommendation service of places and events”. A cool way of pointing out your favorite spots on the map, recommending places and events.

It makes use of Google Maps, and there’s lots of cool stuff you can do there. These include embedding your favorite spots on your blog, writing reviews on spots and events, bookmarking, adding friends, sharing photos and videos on the places you bookmark.

Nomao’s user interface is about as web 2.0 as they get. Without sacrificing usability. In reality, it’s one of the most simple to use and effective user interfaces I’ve seen on a web service in quite some time. Well, at least according to my liking.

I think I’m going to like using this

At least that is what the European Parliament is saying according to this article. MEPs say shutting off or suspending Internet access of those who are persistently sharing copyrighted files online is too harsh a measure which could be violating human rights and civil liberties… If only I could have seen the jaws dropping at the IFPI offices, not that I’m saying they’re wrong wanting to protect the property of their members from online piracy, but still it would have been very funny!

On a more serious note though, I think we shouldn’t immediately outcast the European Parliament’s amendment as “funny” and nonsense. They truly are not protecting online piracy. They are trying to protect civil liberties online, which are caught up in an ongoing battle between pirate file sharers and media companies.

Finally, evidence is starting to surface, the best web browser in the world Mozilla Firefox is actually based on Extra Terrestrial technology. If you ever thought it was out of this world good - it is most likely because it is!

The pictures show how the Firefox logo resembles the star V838 Monocerotis in the Monoceros (Greek for Unicorn) constellation, which is 20,000 light years away from our very own Sun. Prominent figures in conspiracy theory circles now evaluate V838 as a possible home of whatever intelligent beings brought “Firefox” to our own planet.

And there is at least one mad scientist who thinks the current lead developers in the Mozilla Firefox team are actually aliens descended from those first visitors. Reliable sources who cannot be named due to psychiatrist-patient confidentiality are however claiming there is no threat to planet Earth. In reality, the “Firefox people/aliens” are on the world’s side, protecting us from world domination by their evil rival, a piece of software which backed by an evil alien warlord clan has found it’s way into every computer and is near impossible to get rid of.

There is at least one recently documented visit of a U.F.O. from Firefox’s constellation. Where else could it have been from? Look at the crop circle below… That is a satellite image, directly from Google Maps. Does that look familiar?

News of Microsoft’s unsolicited offer to buy Internet legend Yahoo at $44.6bn, caught me by surprise. I never though of Yahoo as something you can “buy”. Yes, it is a company, so certainly there must be someone out there with the cash to buy it.

If Yahoo is bought though - at whatever astronomical price, it will come to prove that EVERYTHING on this world is FOR SALE.

Is that a bad thing? Yes, and no. Ah, I love blog topics when there is no obvious conclusion.

Money where made to circulate. And this is a free economy (more or less), so if you can buy something and want to, you might as well go ahead.

Microsoft obviously wants Yahoo. In plain terms, Microsoft is not in a position to compete with Google on the Internet. So, why go out and build quality services which will attract devoted users, when you can buy a ready made company like Yahoo?

However, there are rules in competition. Microsoft has already been fined for it’s practices by the European Union - so I don’t see how a Microsoft - Yahoo merger would be seen favorably in Europe when it will almost definitely conflict with anti-monopoly regulations.

I practically grew up with Yahoo. I remember it as far back as 1996-7, before even Google came into the picture. So I may be a bit sentimental about seeing it diminished or absorbed into Microsoft. Never mind that, this is a “money talks” society, so the way Yahoo has been cornered, I doubt it will manage to continue as is.

I also doubt that a Microsoft-Yahoo merger would be able to better rival Google. In fact, I think the one who will most benefit will be none other than Google itself. For so many reasons. Primarily because Microsoft would again mess up and fail to drive Yahoo to success.

Stories are out already, about a possible counter-proposal to Yahoo from Google. I cannot imagine how people over at Yahoo feel right now, it seems like one of these situations where you would have to choose over the lesser evil. “Which competitor do I surrender to?”, questions must have already been posed.

Oh well. What do you think about it? Would you rather see Yahoo bought by Microsoft, Google, or continue on its own?

Well, I cannot say these news came as a surprise… Besides, the planet’s past has already revealed some amazing sea monsters among other things. I wonder if whatever life form prevails a million years from now will look back on people fossils and say “this terrible creature almost destroyed the planet”, - insert evil laughter and grin here -

Anyway, here’s the thing, scientists in Europe discovered the fossilized claw of a sea scorpion. From that, they managed to estimate the monster’s size at about 8 feet. That is one big pest if you ask me. I sure hope they truly are extinct… Although that isn’t something I ever expected I’d say. But really, the way the ecosystem and life on earth is nowadays, a giant sea scorpion simply would not compute.
