The Da Vinci Code, Movie

I finally got to watch The Da Vinci Code. Unlike the critics I admit I enjoyed watching it. Having read the book in it’s original edition in English, many scenes in the movie came with an eerie deja-vous feeling to them. Almost identical to how I imagined them while reading.

Of course, it is not easy to transfer an entire book with all the intricate details and descriptions on film, and some things even go beyond what is in the book. The main story is portrayed with adequate respect to the text, and that would be expected since author Dan Brown is also sharing screenplay credits. And Ron Howards work in directing is perfectly satisfactory.
Sir Leigh Teabing is portrayed by Ian McKellen who gives us yet another brilliant performance. I also enjoyed watching Audrey Tautou (Sophie Neveu) on her first major American motion picture project. I loved her in Amelie and she hasn’t disappointed me since with her acting skills. Now – dare I say it – Tom Hanks did not exactly give his best in playing Robert Langdon. In my humble – non-expert opinion that is. Of course, perhaps Langdon’s character missed one too many characteristics being transported from book to screenplay, in which case I shouldn’t really be pointing fingers at the actor.

As I mentioned above, I enjoyed the film. I do as well make known I did not find it to be the masterpiece people’s high expectations wanted it to be. It is a nice action-adventure film to watch, and if you miss it in the movie theaters, it’s worth to get in DVD when it’s out.
